An advocate for the protection of animals, and the education of the masses, the San Diego Zoo has thrived in zoological issues ever since 1916. Millions of tourists each year flock to San Diego, California, to experience exotic and rare animals in their natural habitat, and learn about the efforts the zoo has been so strongly apart of.
The zoo finally found it’s home in Balboa Park in 1920, where they worked with the natural canyons and mesas of the landscape to create enclosures for their animals. This park thrived until World War II, where attendance made the board of directors wonder if they would have enough money to keep the park open. But after the war the park’s popularity, and visitors, sky rocketed again. It became a popular destination not just for tourists from all over the world, but for locals as well. It became a popular school trip destination, where children could be educated on the zoos efforts, and what they could do to help, along with the fascinating animals the zoo housed.

Don’t forget to stop by the San Diego Zoo on your next vacation in southern California, a park with a rich history and a bright future.
