In and around the town of Navarredonda de Gredos (60 km south-west of Avila), there is unrivalled mountain scenery. And at Piedrahita (also 60 km south-west of Avila) stands one of the Duchess ofAlba’s palaces, where Goya painted the naked and clothed Majas. The palace has been converted into a school but it is open on school days from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. and from 3 to 5 p.m.
